Is it cheaper to live on campus or off campus at FSU? ›

At Florida State, rental rates of residence halls range from $2,740 to $4,050 per person, per semester. Living off-campus, you will be able to find more reasonable rates, in addition to all of the other benefits to living off campus.

Student housing at Florida State University is governed by the Office of University Housing, and provides housing for undergraduates, graduate students, and professional students on and off-campus. Overall about 85% of first time in college students live in residence halls.

With a few personal touches you'll feel right at home in your new FSU off-campus housing. Many communities offer their residents several opportunities to have fun and meet new people. Fill up your social calendar with food giveaways, volleyball matches and poolside BBQ's.

Alcohol, alcohol decorative containers, and drug paraphernalia will not be returned. Drugs, drug paraphernalia, and weapons will be confiscated by the Florida State University Public Safety Department. Please do the following to ensure safety in the residence halls. Do not bring candles.

What is the newest dorm at FSU? ›

Azalea and Magnolia are the two newest residence halls at FSU. These dorms were built in 2017, the sister buildings are known for their flat-screen TVs and plenty of comfortable places to sit in their beautiful, modern lounge areas.

Students will be able to select up to ONE roommate request after submitting their housing contract. By mutually requesting another student, you are authorizing that individual to select a room for you.

All guests must abide by University and hall regulations applicable to the resident host. Guests may stay overnight in student rooms provided that each resident of the room/apartment gives his or her permission. Guests may not stay in University Housing for more than three days in any thirty–day period.

Each room is furnished with a bed for each resident, study desks, chairs, dresser space, a small refrigerator, and Internet access for each resident. Residents must provide their own linens.

Parking Permits

Whether your student brings a car or a scooter to FSU, they will need a permit to park on campus in order to avoid pesky parking tickets. Permits expire August 15^th every year. If you need a parking permit, go to Florida State's permit section on the Transportation and Parking Services site.

In addition, students living off campus are nearly twice as likely to get a GPA below 1.0 as those living on campus. Not only does living on campus affect your grades, but it can also affect the length of time it takes to graduate. College students living on campus are more likely to graduate on time.

Usually more expensive

The total cost to live on campus is usually higher than off campus. The student fees and the dorm cost can add up. It will be good to break down the total for room and board on campus and compare that to rent and utilities to see which option is best for your personal budget.

Living at home during college cuts down on costs like room and board, groceries, and laundry. For some, choosing their childhood bedroom over a college dorm means paying off student loans more quickly.
